Indian Green Building Council, under Confederation of Indian Industry, strengthened collaboration with the Government of Goa to accelerate sustainable urban development and green building adoption across the state.
The stakeholder engagement held in Panaji focused on integrating sustainability into hospitality, residential, and infrastructure development. Goa currently has a green building footprint of 9.96 million sq ft, with 88 registered and 27 certified IGBC projects across sectors.
Discussions emphasised embedding sustainability into policy frameworks, promoting resource efficiency across energy, water, and materials, and advancing climate-responsive development. The need for enabling regulatory ecosystems and incentives to scale green construction was also highlighted.
State leadership reiterated the importance of balancing development with ecological preservation, positioning green buildings, industries, and tourism infrastructure as central to Goa’s long-term growth vision.
Industry stakeholders, including CREDAI Goa, along with hospitality and infrastructure players, contributed insights on low-carbon design, efficient resource use, and sustainable project execution.
The engagement concluded with a consensus on deeper government–industry collaboration, with IGBC committing technical expertise, certification frameworks, and advisory support to help position Goa as a benchmark for sustainable, climate-responsive urban development.
