The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has unveiled a major plan to provide affordable housing for low-income families under a zonal development plan for Cluster-2, situated between Sultanpur Road and Kanpur Road. The authority has allocated provision for 18,113 affordable homes in the cluster and projects that the development will directly benefit around 90,000 people. The initiative follows a formal assessment that identified a shortage of affordable housing in the area. The move aims to expand housing availability and improve living conditions for resource-constrained households in the growing urban corridor.

An LDA survey informed the inclusion of the new housing provision and the zonal map now marks specific construction sites. The plan designates approximately 53.83 hectares of land for the project and these plots have been earmarked to ensure residential use aligns with implementation timelines. The authority has included site allocations in the official zonal development documents to streamline approvals and planning infrastructure for future construction phases.

The proposed dwellings will have a built-up area of around 800 square foot (sq ft) and will be configured to meet the needs of low-income and resource-constrained families. Designs will prioritise basic amenities and efficient layouts to maximise utility within modest footprints, while planning provisions consider access to transport corridors and local services. The clustered approach is intended to create residential neighbourhoods that can be integrated with civic amenities over time.

No additional affordable housing has been proposed for Cluster-1, which lies between Ayodhya Road and Sultanpur Road, as the authority assessed that existing housing supply is sufficient there. The vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar confirmed that zonal development plans for both clusters have been finalised and that required land and construction sites were identified in the documentation, a step expected to facilitate faster implementation of subsequent housing projects.
