Maharashtra Orders City Growth Plans

The Maharashtra Government has directed municipal corporations with populations above 10 lakh to prepare Economic Master Plans aimed at boosting tourism, ease of doing business, investment inflows and commercial hubs.

Issued through the Urban Development Department, the directive states these plans must be integrated with city Development Plans under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has been selected as a pilot under NITI Aayog’s G-HUB initiative to develop urban regions as economic growth centres. In Mumbai, the framework is expected to align with existing planning regulations valid till 2034.
