MC Uses Mobile App to Catch Property Tax Defaulters
An official said, “Using the mobile application, the civic body prepared maps of different blocks in the city, including the details of the properties. The department has further integrated the data of GIS mapping with the maps with the help of which UID numbers of the properties have now been marked in the mobile application.”
According to the official, color coding was used to separate defaulters who had previously neglected to pay their taxes. For instance, the properties against which property tax has only been paid for the 2013–2014 fiscal year have been designated as pink. Similar to this, blue has been assigned to properties for which tax has been paid through 2017–18 but the owners have not paid tax for the following financial years. In order to assist the field staff in locating a particular property, the application and maps provide the field personnel's current position.
This is one of the many measures the MC is taking to digitize and capture defaulters, according to MC Commissioner Dr. Shena Aggarwal. She claimed that all properties in the city must now have UID numbers. The residents will benefit from being able to easily obtain all MC-related information on their properties online. Additionally, this will assist the authorities in identifying defaulters who have previously been unable to pay their debts.
According to MC Superintendent Vivek Verma, the field team is also receiving training on how to use mobile applications. Additionally, the civic organization is sending text messages to tax defaulters urging them to pay the tax by the deadline to avoid MC action.
