MREAT sets aside MahaRERA order on realty portals' listing as agents

The Maharashtra Real Estate Appellate Tribunal (MREAT) has overturned the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Body's (MahaRERA) ruling regarding the registration of property portals as real estate brokers and asked the authority to hear the matter again.|

In October 2019, the real estate authority requested that web portals register as real estate agents. The web portals had opposed this decision, claiming that they were not assisting any sales but were simply presenting information to the public through adverts.

Property portals further claimed that they advise visitors to their websites to review project facts from various authorities, including MahaRERA, before making a final decision.

The Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) filed a complaint with MahaRERA in July 2018, alleging that web portals must be registered as real estate agents with the government.
