The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), after receiving inadequate applications for its project under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), has now decided to extend the application deadline from April 24 to June 25.

The authority has proposed to build 10,000 flats and has received only 760 applications under the scheme launched in January this year.

Covid lockdown is the major reason for the lack of response as many migrant labourers working in local factories have left town, leaving few takers for the scheme.

ACEO of GNIDA, Deep Chandra said that due to the pandemic and economic slowdown, we have increased the application deadline of the PMAY scheme by two months. The PMAY affordable housing scheme is under two categories – for economically weaker sections of society (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG).

While the state government has provided all three authorities with a target of 50,000 such homes to be built.

Santosh Kumar, OSD builders of GNIDA, told the media that the overall Covid pandemic has led to a delay in implanting all the conditions of the scheme and has led to fewer responses received so far.
