Perceptive Ideas Designs Structure for Vanijya Bhawan

Perceptive Ideas Consulting Engineers has recently contributed to the structural design of Vanijya Bhawan, a major government office complex located at 16A Akbar Road on the C-Hexagon in New Delhi. The facility serves as the official office of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, and represents a blend of modern engineering design with architectural elements reflecting national heritage.

The complex houses offices of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Secretary’s office and accommodates approximately 1,800–2,000 officers. The project highlights the firm’s capabilities in delivering structurally efficient and functional designs for large-scale public infrastructure.

Perceptive Ideas introduced a modern steel structural framework combined with traditional façade treatments to ensure structural performance while maintaining architectural harmony. The design incorporates composite columns to enhance load-bearing capacity and optimise structural performance.

Efficient and expansive floor layouts were achieved using shallow-depth post-tensioned (PT) beams, enabling greater structural flexibility. The building also features large-span cantilever projections and a prominent cantilevered canopy, creating open, column-free spaces that enhance both usability and spatial experience.

Modern construction technologies, including steel structures and post-tensioned slabs, were incorporated to improve durability and overall performance.

Speaking on the achievement, Ajay Gupta, Principal Consultant and Founder of Perceptive Ideas Consulting, said, “This marks another milestone for our organisation, especially when we are associated with a project as grand as Vanijya Bhawan. It represents our capabilities and commitment to deliver structural engineering plans within a framework of national heritage. We applied a techno-commercial approach to ensure functionality, longevity and sustainability to maintain the architectural dignity of this project.”

With the successful structural design of Vanijya Bhawan, the firm further strengthens its portfolio in government and institutional infrastructure projects, continuing to translate complex architectural concepts into structurally efficient solutions.
