Piyush Goyal Warns Builders Over SRA Delays

In a major push to make North Mumbai slum-free, 149 families of the Jai Santoshi Maa Housing Society in Kandivali received keys to their new homes under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme. The homes were handed over by Union Commerce & Industry Minister and North Mumbai MP, Piyush Goyal, who also issued a stern warning to builders and officials responsible for delaying redevelopment projects.

Addressing the gathering, Goyal said:

“True development is not just about GDP figures. It begins with ensuring every citizen has a safe, permanent, and dignified home. Until the last person in society lives with security and self-respect, our work remains incomplete.”

While praising the developer for the timely and quality completion of the project, Goyal made it clear that negligence, corruption, or delay in SRA redevelopment will not be tolerated.

He added:

“Builders who abandon projects, stop rent payments, or deliver substandard work will be blacklisted. In severe cases, they may face imprisonment. I also demand action against government officials who collude with such builders.”

Goyal further emphasized that beneficiaries must have the right to choose their developer without any political or administrative interference. He stressed the need for complete transparency in the SRA process.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to housing for all, Goyal highlighted the national target set under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership:

“In the next five years, 3 crore families will receive free pucca homes. No Indian should be left behind in the journey to a developed and self-reliant nation.”

The ceremony was attended by MLA Yogesh Sagar, developer Rashmin Rugani, chief promoter Amit Yadav, and SRA official Swapna Deshpande.

Statement on the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack: Speaking on the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Goyal said:

“Those responsible will face justice so severe that no enemy will dare look at Bharat with evil intent again. It is shameful that certain people, like Robert Vadra, appear in videos sheltering such threats. Even more disgraceful are those who try to justify this barbaric act by asking about the religion of the victims. Let it be known — all 1.4 billion Indians stand united with PM Narendra Modi in the war against terrorism and its sympathizers. India will not forgive, and India will not forget.”
