Real estate agents in Telangana will soon need to pass an examination and secure a certificate to practice, with even existing agents needing to clear the test for license renewal. Telangana RERA's chairman, N Satyanarayana, shared that the board is collaborating with stakeholders to enhance realtors' credibility, emulating the Maharashtra model where a similar certification process is in place.
The proposed system includes a training program followed by an online examination for real estate agents. Discussions with the Hyderabad Realtors Association and the Advocates Association for Social Responsibility and Awareness are underway to establish the details of the plan. Premier institutions are expected to participate in providing training and administering the test, which will be accessible in both English and Telugu.
The move is viewed as a significant step towards institutionalising the real estate sector, fostering transparency and trust. Under the Maha RERA model in Maharashtra, agents must complete a day-long certification course and pass an exam to practice, with the license being valid for five years.
Ravi Varma, Chairman of the National Association of Realtors, India, expressed hopes for the expansion of this system to other states. He emphasised that such a practice not only enhances professionalism but also ensures that real estate agents are well-equipped to be trusted intermediaries in property transactions.
