Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) authorities are considering a Unified RERA Portal to provide home buyers with collective access to information on real estate projects, a regulator said. Anand Kumar, retired IAS officer and RERA chairman for the Government of NCT of Delhi, advised that the proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and was being considered favourably as a tool to collate project information for stakeholders.

He noted that the portal was intended to benefit home buyers, promoters and agents by enabling easier navigation of project records and facilitating a win win outcome for stakeholders. He emphasised that until the proposal received formal approval, projects should proceed under existing state laws and construction sector stipulations because real estate remained a subject on the State list. The approach sought to preserve state jurisdiction while improving transparency.

Shiv Das Meena, retired IAS officer and RERA chairman for Tamil Nadu, indicated that southern states had reservations on some issues and that a unified portal might not suit their interests, though it could be considered for general project information access. Rakesh Kumar Goyal, retired IRS officer and RERA chairman for Punjab, reported that the authority in Punjab had been effective and that developers were receiving approvals within 15 days when applications were complete. Chiefs from Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi expressed broad consensus on the need for efficiency.

Bharat Agarwal, president of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) in Pune, observed that RERA was performing well but required further reforms to strengthen its regulatory role. Participants at the panel discussion reiterated support for measures that could improve transparency and expedite approvals while respecting state powers. Officials said the proposal would balance access with regional sensitivities as it moved carefully through the ministry.
