The Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Kamlesh Paswan, reviewed the progress of ministry schemes in Majuli district of Assam during an official visit. He held a review meeting with district officers at the Deputy Commissioner's office and examined implementation, physical and financial progress and quality standards.

Following the meeting he interacted with women of Self?Help Groups and noted that under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY–NRLM) around 3.98 mn women in Assam are associated with 0.36 mn self?help groups and loans amounting to Rs 232,520 mn have been disbursed. He recorded that non?performing assets stood at zero point five six per cent and described women?led development as the foundation of a developed India.

He inspected houses constructed at Garamur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) and noted that in Assam about 2.91 mn houses have been sanctioned and 2.13 mn houses have been completed. In Majuli, out of 22,349 sanctioned houses 20,107 have been finished and he directed officials to ensure quality construction and timely completion of the remaining dwellings.

Thereafter he visited the Rangachahi State Dispensary and inspected the Madhupur–Puranibari road built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). He noted that the state had 9,269 sanctioned works and 9,146 completed, which exceeded 98 per cent, and he directed officials to prioritise quality and maintenance given the role of connectivity in strengthening the local economy and improving access to education, healthcare and employment.

He also inspected Shri Shri Pitambar Dev Goswami District Hospital, reviewed availability of health facilities and paid respects at Shri Shri Auniati Satra and Shri Shri Uttar Kamalabari Satra, noting Majuli's rich Vaishnav tradition and cultural heritage. The visit was presented as reaffirming the Government of India's commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure, housing, livelihoods and connectivity and to ensuring effective and transparent implementation of schemes.
