PMAY-G was launched in 2016 to provide permanent housing and basic facilities to eligible rural families. Under the scheme, each beneficiary receives Rs. 0.13 mn through direct benefit transfer into a bank account. From FY23, assistance for purchasing kitchen materials and utensils was increased from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000 per beneficiary.
Beneficiaries also receive Rs. 12,000 for toilet construction through the Swachh Bharat Mission, with support routed through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act or Swajal. They are additionally provided 95 days of wages for house construction under the programme cited by the government.
The housing support includes access to drinking water, LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme and electricity connections. The state government said Uttarakhand had also received national recognition for its performance under PMAY-Urban 2.0. Dhami said efforts were continuing to ensure that every eligible family received the benefits of PMAY-G.
