Fujifilm Unveils LTO-10 Tape With 75TB Storage
FUJIFILM India, a wholly owned subsidiary of FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, Tokyo, has launched the “FUJIFILM LTO Ultrium 10 Data Cartridge” (LTO-10), a magnetic data storage solution offering a maximum recording capacity of 75 terabytes (30 terabytes uncompressed) per cartridge. This product is designed to provide secure, long-term, and cost-effective data storage for enterprises facing rising volumes of critical information.
Commenting on the launch, Mr Koji Wada, Managing Director, FUJIFILM India, stated, “At FUJIFILM India, we are committed to delivering innovative products that embody our purpose of ‘Giving Our World More Smiles.’ The LTO-10 represents a major step in offering scalable and secure storage solutions that help enterprises safeguard essential data as global digital content expands rapidly.”
Mr J Solomon Sukumar, Associate Director – Recording Media & Industrial Products, added, “LTO-10 combines innovation and security for data-heavy industries such as BFSI, healthcare, government, and research. Using fine hybrid magnetic particles, it enhances data density, while maintaining integrity and durability even under heavy use. The offline, air-gapped nature of LTO-10 offers protection from cyber threats and ensures long-term compliance.”
As the 10th generation of the LTO Ultrium magnetic tape standard, LTO-10 increases uncompressed storage capacity by 67 per cent compared to its predecessor, LTO-9 (18 TB). This advancement is attributed to Fujifilm’s proprietary fine hybrid magnetic particles, developed by blending nanoparticle design technologies from next-generation Strontium Ferrite (SrFe) and Barium Ferrite (BaFe). This marks the first use of such hybrid particles in the LTO Ultrium series.
Beyond storage capacity, LTO-10 ensures stable read/write performance and a lower total cost of acquisition than hard disk drives. Magnetic tapes also offer offline “air gap” protection, physically separating stored data from network vulnerabilities, thus reducing the risk of cyberattacks or system failures.
With data generation expected to reach 175 zettabytes globally by 2025—driven by autonomous systems, AI, IoT, and medical imaging—solutions like LTO-10 will be critical for organisations required to securely retain large volumes of information over extended periods.
