India’s Data Centre Capacity Reaches 1,789 MW in H1 2026
India’s data centre sector continues to witness strong growth, driven by hyperscale cloud adoption, artificial intelligence (AI) deployments and enterprise digital transformation. According to Cushman & Wakefield’s India Data Centre H1 2026 Update, the country’s top seven data centre markets added 178 MW of new capacity during H1 2026, taking total operational capacity to 1,789 MW.
The sector is expected to receive an additional 3,860 MW of capacity by 2030, including 509 MW under construction and 3,351 MW in the planning stage, reflecting strong confidence in India’s digital infrastructure growth potential.
India’s data centre ecosystem has expanded to 147 facilities operated by 33 providers across key markets. Despite continued capacity additions, colocation vacancy remained at 14.9% in H1 2026, indicating steady demand absorption and supporting future expansion.
The growth aligns with a broader transformation across the Asia Pacific region. Cushman & Wakefield’s 2026 Asia Pacific Data Centre Investment Landscape report projects the region’s data centre capacity to grow 2.7 times by 2030, supported by a development pipeline of 26,455 MW against 15,135 MW of existing operational capacity.
The report estimates that APAC’s data centre sector will require more than US$280 billion in capital expenditure through 2030, with operational asset values expected to exceed US$950 billion by the end of the decade. Japan, Malaysia, Australia, India and Indonesia are expected to account for nearly 77% of the region’s projected capital expenditure.
India is projected to require US$29.9 billion in development capital for data centres through 2030, positioning it among APAC’s major investment markets. With approximately 825,333 people per MW of operational capacity, India remains one of the region’s underpenetrated digital infrastructure markets, indicating significant scope for future growth.
