IR and IIT-M Collaborate on Hyperloop Technology

Indian Railways is advancing Hyperloop technology through a partnership between the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and IIT Madras. As part of this initiative, the two entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence for Hyperloop technology, backed by Rs 208.9 billion in funding.

The project aims to develop a sub-scale model of a Hyperloop pod, a test track, and a vacuum tube facility at IIT Madras, serving as a foundation for validating the futuristic transportation system. While Hyperloop remains in its early stages globally, it is expected to offer faster, more energy-efficient, and sustainable mobility compared to conventional transport modes.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided these details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, emphasising the Railways’ commitment to pioneering advanced transportation technologies.
