NXP Launches CoreRide Z248 for 48 V Zonal Vehicle Architectures

NXP Semiconductors recently introduced the CoreRide Z248 zonal reference system, designed to accelerate the development of scalable 48 V zonal architectures for next-generation software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The design-ready hardware and software platform integrates energy distribution, intelligent data routing and functional safety within a single pre-validated system.

Built on NXP’s S32K5 microcontroller series with integrated MRAM technology, the reference system enables faster over-the-air updates and improved system responsiveness throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. It combines advanced energy distribution, deterministic data processing and real-time performance, helping automotive manufacturers simplify system integration and shorten development timelines.

The platform includes a comprehensive pre-validated software stack supporting functionalities such as power monitoring, intelligent data routing, AI-enabled virtual sensing, diagnostics and audio processing. It also incorporates integrated power management components, Ethernet networking and CAN communication technologies required for modern vehicle architectures.

The CoreRide Z248 system is designed to support internal combustion engine, hybrid and battery electric vehicles. By enabling ECU consolidation and streamlined energy management within a unified architecture, the system aims to reduce complexity and total cost of ownership while helping automakers transition to advanced zonal processing frameworks.

The reference system is currently available for selected customers and forms part of NXP’s broader CoreRide platform aimed at supporting the evolution of software-defined automotive architectures.
