A total of 293 large infrastructure projects worth Rs 13.59 trillion have been assessed so far under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan for integrated planning, multimodal connectivity, a whole-of-government approach, and last-mile connectivity, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, stated in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that 57 central ministries and departments have been onboarded to the GatiShakti platform. These include eight key infrastructure ministries such as Highways, Railways, Ports, Power, and Communications, along with 22 social sector ministries and 27 others. Additionally, all 36 states and Union Territories have joined the platform to strengthen Centre–state coordination.

While the PM GatiShakti initiative does not have a separate fund allocation, the Ministry of Finance had earmarked Rs 50 billion in 2022–23 under the “Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment” for infrastructure projects related to GatiShakti.

According to a study conducted by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), India’s logistics costs have reduced to between 7.8 and 8.9 per cent of GDP, significantly down from earlier estimates of 13 to 14 per cent. This decline is attributed to the structured implementation of the GatiShakti Master Plan.

The NCAER report, titled Gati Se Pragati, highlights how coordinated infrastructure development is positioning India closer to global standards of logistics efficiency.

India’s ranking in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index also improved from 44th to 38th in 2023, indicating positive progress. However, the report noted that considerable scope remains for further improvement.
