A.P. Thermal Generation Rises 13.1 Per Cent in H1 FY27
Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand provided the figures at a review meeting held at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada. The meeting was attended by APGenco managing director S. Nagalakshmi and APTransco joint managing director G. Surya Sai Praveenchand.
Vijayanand said the State government had established a fuel security system and prepared a comprehensive advance power purchase plan to manage the anticipated rise in electricity demand. The planning was undertaken based on advisories from the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) regarding the effects of El Niño.
The weather phenomenon resulted in weaker rainfall and higher temperatures in the region. These conditions contributed to increased electricity consumption, making fuel availability and advance procurement important elements of the State’s power management strategy during the six-month period.
The generation figure represents output from thermal stations owned by the State and places the first-half performance above the level recorded a year earlier. The additional 2,231 MU generated between April and September formed part of the effort to meet higher demand while maintaining supply through advance power-purchase planning and alternative coal sourcing.
The review focused on generation performance, fuel arrangements and measures to ensure reliable electricity availability as demand remained elevated. Officials assessed the contribution of State-owned thermal plants and the systems put in place to support their operations during the period affected by reduced rainfall and higher temperatures.
