The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted an aerodrome licence to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) for Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The airport was developed by YIAPL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, under a public–private partnership with the governments of Uttar Pradesh and India, and the concession commenced on one October 2021 for 40 years. The aerodrome is licensed for Public Use and features a runway oriented 10/28 measuring 3,900 metres by 45 metres, supported by an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) to enable 24 by seven operations.

The apron provides parking stands for 24 Code C and two Code D/F aircraft and the aerodrome is equipped with Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Category nine facilities capable of handling wide?body types such as the Boeing 777-300ER. Navigational and ground lighting systems support safe, continuous operations and meet international standards for large aircraft movements.

Noida International Airport is being developed in four phases with a multi?modal cargo hub, the first phase comprising one runway and one terminal with a designed capacity of around 12 mn passengers annually. Subsequent phases are expected to raise capacity to up to 70 mn passengers per year, positioning the facility as a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.

The project forms part of the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s strategy to expand the aviation ecosystem, under which operational airports have increased from 74 in 2014 to 164 today and India has become the third?largest domestic aviation market. The approach combines new greenfield airports with upgrades to brownfield facilities and regional airstrips, supported by initiatives such as the UDAN scheme and a roadmap to develop over 400 airports by 2047. The Minister, Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, congratulated the Government of Uttar Pradesh and said the airport will boost regional growth, tourism and investment while easing congestion and improving passenger experience.
