Aerolloy Installs Plasma Arc Melting Furnace at Lucknow Unit
The PAM furnace has an installed capacity of around 600 tonnes per annum for manufacturing titanium alloy ingots. All electrical, mechanical and control panel installations have been completed, with the facility now ready for trials and subsequent commissioning.
Plasma Arc Melting is an advanced technology used to produce high-quality titanium and specialty alloys under controlled conditions. The process allows precise control over chemistry and metallurgical cleanliness, supports efficient remelting and recycling of internal scrap, and enables the production of specialised titanium alloys in smaller batch sizes for aerospace, defence and space applications.
The new facility enhances Aerolloy’s operational flexibility and cost efficiency by improving material yields and reducing dependence on fresh raw material inputs. It also enables the development of customised alloys required for advanced and mission-critical programmes.
Together with existing Vacuum Arc Remelting and Vacuum Induction Melting infrastructure, the PAM furnace further strengthens PTC and Aerolloy’s position as an integrated titanium and superalloy manufacturing platform. The installation aligns with PTC’s long-term strategy of building an end-to-end advanced materials ecosystem in India, supporting both import substitution and export-oriented growth.
