The Indian government is leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle key challenges in agriculture and support farmers through various initiatives. 

The ‘Kisan e-Mitra’ chatbot, powered by AI, assists farmers by answering queries related to the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme in multiple languages. Currently handling over 20,000 queries daily, it has responded to more than 92 lakh farmer inquiries so far. 

The National Pest Surveillance System employs AI and Machine Learning to detect pest infestations, helping mitigate crop losses due to climate change. Used by over 10,000 extension workers, the system supports 61 crops and 400 pests, with nearly 1 lakh pest images uploaded for analysis. 

Additionally, AI-driven analytics are being used for crop health assessment, integrating satellite imagery, weather data, and soil moisture levels to monitor rice and wheat crops effectively. 

These advancements, highlighted by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Ramnath Thakur in the Rajya Sabha, demonstrate AI’s growing role in enhancing agricultural productivity and resilience.
