Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is set for inauguration, marking the completion of an integrated airport project covering 2,203.32 acres for the airport, a 500-acre aviation hub and a 136.63-acre aviation university and EduCity. The development has been planned to serve as a regional gateway and to enhance connectivity for Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and surrounding districts. The scheme brings together passenger and training facilities, as well as cargo infrastructure, under a unified master plan.

Sustainability features include a five megawatt (MW) solar power plant, energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, and LED airfield lighting to reduce operational energy demand. The project incorporates rainwater harvesting and water recycling systems, with around 30 per cent of the airport's water requirement to be met through recycled water. These measures are intended to lower the environmental footprint while supporting reliable utilities for airport operations.

Tourist destinations expected to benefit include Araku, Lambasingi and Visakhapatnam, together with Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, as improved air links are anticipated to shorten travel times and broaden visitor access. The airport is also expected to create opportunities across tourism, hospitality, logistics and warehousing, and to support exports and sectoral growth in pharmaceuticals, marine products, information technology, aerospace, defence and manufacturing. Ancillary services linked to cargo handling and cold chain logistics are likely to expand as commercial flights and freight services scale up.

Local authorities have framed the project as a lever for balanced regional development that will attract investment and employment while strengthening supply chains. The integrated campus arrangement, which combines educational and operational facilities, is intended to deliver skilled manpower alongside infrastructure capacity. The inauguration is being positioned as a milestone for the state’s aviation ambitions and for wider economic integration across the region.
