The state Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij announced that seven new sectors will be developed under the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in Ambala Cantonment. The new sectors will be numbered 27, 28, 36, 40, 40A, 41A and 42 and will include residential areas, open spaces, commercial zones, transport and communication facilities and industrial spaces. The development is intended to expand the city boundaries and enhance urban infrastructure.

The minister said the sectors will be developed on over 1,000 acres across the constituency and adjoining villages, including Ghasitpur, Bohawa, Shahpur, Brahmin Majra, Kardhan, Sarsehri, Chandpura, Machhonda, Ugada, Dukheri, Salarheri, Ranwala, Manglai and Sambhalkha. He indicated that the project is expected to significantly improve housing availability and public amenities and to support longer term urban growth. Officials view the initiative as a step towards enabling Ambala to attain metropolitan status in future.

The minister expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for approving the development and said the state government is accelerating infrastructure works to support the plan. He noted that the government has opened the E-Bhoomi portal, which will accept applications for two months until April 30, 2026, and that landowners may apply on the portal to contribute land for sector development. Authorities have framed the process to ensure transparency, voluntary participation and fair compensation for landowners.

Vij recalled that he had requested the development of new HSVP sectors last year, taking into account the planned Ambala Ring Road, and that he had urged officials to conduct surveys to identify suitable locations along the route. The administration aims to align sector planning with the ring road to improve connectivity and facilitate industrial and commercial growth. Planners expect the initiative to accelerate local development while offering landowners a direct role in the urbanisation process.
