GCMMF, the organisation behind the 'Amul' brand, will invest Rs 6 billion to establish an integrated dairy plant in Kolkata, West Bengal, which will feature the world’s largest curd manufacturing facility. This investment was announced during the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025.

The new facility will have a daily curd production capacity of 10 lakh kg, making it the largest of its kind globally. The plant will also process 15 lakh litres of milk per day. The decision to set up this plant stems from the significant demand for curd in Kolkata and the surrounding areas.

GCMMF, which achieved a turnover of Rs 594.45 billion in the 2023-24 financial year, is expecting a double-digit growth in revenue for the current fiscal year. The cooperative handles an average of 310 lakh litre of milk per day and has an annual milk processing capacity of about 500 lakh litre.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) is the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, with 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages in Gujarat. The cooperative's 18 member unions procure 300 lakh litres of milk daily. It ranks 8th globally in terms of milk processing according to the International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN).

Apart from its strong presence in the domestic market, GCMMF exports dairy products to 50 countries. Recently, it expanded its footprint in the US market with the launch of four variants of fresh milk, catering to the Indian and Asian diaspora.
