Andhra Pradesh to Connect Over One Million Streetlights
The initial phase will cover about 0.75 mn streetlights, with a further 0.3 mn to be added as the scope expands. Individual Light Monitoring controllers will link each lamp to a central platform so municipal authorities can operate and monitor lighting remotely and receive data on functioning and energy consumption. Rollout planning will involve tripartite arrangements between EESL and concerned ULBs, with regional review meetings scheduled from August 11 to 14 to finalise execution.
The digital platform is expected to provide real time monitoring, remote switching, fault detection, energy tracking, GIS based asset mapping, automated alerts and performance analytics. It will support predictive maintenance to identify potential faults before they result in prolonged outages and to prioritise repairs. Centralised energy and performance data should give urban authorities better visibility into network operations and help plan maintenance cycles.
The initiative builds on the Centre's Street Lighting National Programme under which EESL has replaced more than 13 mn conventional streetlights with LED fittings across India, and it seeks to combine energy efficient lighting with digital connectivity and data based municipal management. For Andhra Pradesh municipalities the project is expected to reduce dependence on manual inspections and improve monitoring of a dispersed public asset while supporting more systematic planning of maintenance and operating costs. EESL has committed to implement the programme within the stipulated timeline as the state aims to demonstrate an AI enabled and energy efficient model for urban streetlighting.
