Annamalai, Vasan Appeal to TN Govt to Revoke Electricity Tariff Hike

In a joint effort, BJP state president K. Annamalai and Tamil Maanila Congress chief G.K. Vasan have urged the Tamil Nadu government to roll back the recent hike in electricity tariffs. They contend that the tariff increase would burden the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly during the current economic challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Annamalai and Vasan expressed concern that the tariff hike would negatively impact various sectors already reeling under financial strain. They emphasised the need for the government to prioritise the welfare of the people and alleviate their financial burdens rather than imposing additional costs.

The leaders pointed out that the timing of the tariff hike is particularly unfavourable, considering the economic hardships faced by the public and businesses. They urged the state government to reconsider its decision and take measures to mitigate the financial impact on consumers and industries.

The appeal comes amidst growing discontent and opposition from various quarters regarding the electricity tariff hike in Tamil Nadu. Annamalai and Vasan highlighted the importance of affordable electricity for households and businesses alike, advocating for policies that support economic recovery and sustainable development in the state.

They emphasised the need for the Tamil Nadu government to adopt a balanced approach that ensures affordable energy prices while supporting the state's economic growth and welfare objectives.
