Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh reviewed progress and the future roadmap of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) in a meeting on 13 April 2026, setting direction for the next phase of India’s research ecosystem with emphasis on mission-mode programmes and societal innovation. The review brought together officials from the Department of Science and Technology and representatives of leading research and academic institutions. Participants discussed stronger public access to scientific knowledge and clearer communication of research relevance.

To reach citizens more effectively, the foundation is developing an AI-based platform called SARAL AI that will convert complex research publications and patents into podcasts, short videos, posters, business briefs, presentations and rich social media content in 18 Indian languages. The platform is intended to simplify technical material and improve comprehension so that benefits of research are more readily visible to the public. The approach aims to demystify science and encourage wider engagement.

The foundation has launched multiple Mission for Advancement in High Impact Areas (MAHA) programmes that bring together academia, industry and government to accelerate research from early technology readiness stages with clear national relevance. A new MAHA programme on Leapfrog Demonstrators for Societal Innovation will focus on rapid development and demonstration of scalable solutions for pollution control, climate resilience, disaster management, sports, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, transportation and safety, smarter infrastructure, community health, radical energy efficiency and economic inclusion. The programmes are structured to deliver measurable impact.

The foundation has evaluated nearly 20,000 research applications in the last four months and continues to promote flagship horizontal schemes such as the Advanced Research Grant (ARG) and the Prime Minister's Early Career Research Grant (PM-ECRG) to strengthen the research ecosystem. To ease procedural burdens, nodal officers have been deployed in 250 institutions to support principal investigators and ensure smoother project execution. New communication channels including WhatsApp and Arattai have been created to provide real-time updates and amplify outreach. Officials said the focus will remain on fewer, well structured flagship programmes with faster translation of research into public benefit.
