AP Government Targets Polavaram Commissioning By December 2027

The Andhra Pradesh Government (AP Government) is aiming to commission the Polavaram multi?purpose project by December 2027, the state governor Abdul Nazeer said. The governor indicated that authorities have prioritised completion within the revised timeline and were coordinating across departments to expedite remaining works. He noted that the project was intended to provide irrigation, drinking water and flood control benefits to broad areas of the state.

Officials conveyed that major civil works and ancillary structures were advancing and that contractors had been instructed to intensify schedules to meet the deadline. The state agency overseeing the project was reported to be monitoring progress through frequent reviews and technical audits. Environmental management and resettlement measures were said to be receiving continued attention to ensure statutory compliance.

The governor referred to mobilisation of financial resources and coordination with central authorities to resolve funding and clearances. State planners were described as engaging with engineering consultants and logistic partners to streamline procurement and material supplies. Cross?departmental task forces were reportedly handling land acquisition and rehabilitation matters to avoid delays.

When commissioned the project is expected to augment irrigation coverage and improve water availability for domestic and agricultural use in affected districts. The reservoir and associated canals were projected to strengthen drought resilience and enhance cropping patterns in command areas. Authorities were also said to be preparing contingency plans for operational management and safety.

The AP Government planned regular public updates and had set milestones to be tracked until commissioning. The governor’s statement underlined political and administrative commitment to complete the scheme by the targeted date. Officials were expected to furnish detailed progress reports at periodic reviews to maintain transparency and accountability.
