Bajaj, IIT Bombay Join Hands To Develop Smart Streetlights

Bajaj Electricals has entered into a strategic partnership with the TIH Foundation for IoT & IoE at IIT Bombay to jointly develop advanced smart street lighting solutions under the Smart Streetlight Control Project.

The collaboration combines Bajaj Electricals’ extensive experience in large-scale lighting deployments with TIH’s cutting-edge research in electronics, network communication, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML). Together, the two organisations aim to design intelligent, energy-efficient street lighting systems that align with India’s Smart City Mission and national priorities such as Digital India and Make in India.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the first phase of the partnership will focus on creating an AI-driven lighting solution designed to deliver energy optimisation, operational efficiency, and high reliability.

Over time, Bajaj Electricals and TIH Foundation plan to expand their collaboration to address broader challenges in smart urban infrastructure, including connected utilities, intelligent traffic management, and adaptive city services.

The initiative reinforces India’s growing emphasis on sustainable, technology-led urban development and aims to set new benchmarks for smart public infrastructure through the integration of indigenous research and industrial expertise.
