BASF has announced that it will begin licensing its proprietary PolyTHF 1800 production technology to clients and partners across the Asia-Pacific region. The company, a global leader in PolyTHF development, currently operates three production sites for the material in China, Germany and the United States. The move aims to deepen industry collaboration, generate efficiencies and expand value creation opportunities for both BASF and its partners.
According to Abhisek Chakrabarti, Director of Strategy, Projects and Licensing, Intermediates Asia Pacific at BASF, access to the technology will support industries such as textiles, where innovation and performance are crucial. He noted that technology partnerships can help accelerate growth and enable companies to enhance product capability and competitiveness.
PolyTHF is a key raw material for the production of spandex and elastane fibres, which are widely used in applications such as sportswear, swimwear, underwear and stretch denim. The fibres provide long-term elasticity, comfort and resistance to moisture and microbial exposure.
BASF’s Intermediates division supplies more than 600 chemical products globally, serving sectors ranging from coatings and plastics to pharmaceuticals and crop protection. Its portfolio emphasises sustainability-focused solutions, including recycled and renewable offerings, as well as enhanced CO2 management to support customers’ environmental goals.
