India's engagement with the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has intensified, particularly along its eastern coastline. Indra Mani Pandey, India's Foreign Secretary, underscores the strategic importance of this regional grouping in bolstering economic cooperation and connectivity among member nations.

Pandey highlighted BIMSTEC's role in promoting trade, cultural exchanges, and maritime security in the Bay of Bengal region. He emphasised the collaborative efforts aimed at harnessing the region's economic potential and addressing common challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.

The initiative focuses on enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects, including ports and roads, to facilitate smoother trade and movement of goods within the BIMSTEC member countries. This collaborative approach aims to strengthen India's ties with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan, fostering a stable and prosperous region.

India's strategic location on the eastern coast plays a pivotal role in BIMSTEC's objectives, offering opportunities for economic growth and regional integration. Pandey reiterated India's commitment to deepening cooperation within BIMSTEC, leveraging its geographical advantage to bolster maritime trade and connectivity initiatives.
