Bisleri and Goa government to enhance waste management in Mormugao

Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd. has joined forces with the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to improve plastic waste management in Mormugao. The collaboration, formalized through a letter of intent exchanged during the Green Goa Summit 2024, involves multiple stakeholders including the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) and the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).

This partnership aims to raise awareness about effective waste management practices through comprehensive educational programs targeting residents, businesses, and schools. It will also focus on enhancing the collection, segregation, and recycling of dry and plastic waste, contributing to a cleaner environment in the region.

The initiative includes staff training at Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) managed by MMC and support for Self-Help Group-run recovery centers at Harvalem. The project will be implemented with the expertise of local partner SampurnEURarth Environment Solution Pvt. Ltd. and regularly monitored to ensure transparency and continuous improvement.

During the summit, Bisleri also introduced the manual "Towards Responsible Use of Plastics," developed in collaboration with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), to promote sustainable plastic use in schools.

K Ganesh, Director of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs, Bisleri, expressed gratitude to the government and other partners for supporting this critical initiative, which is set to enhance waste management in Mormugao while benefiting the community and environment.

The summit gathered key figures, including Union Minister Shripad Naik and former Environment Minister Suresh Prabhu, to discuss strategies for advancing the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda in Goa.

Bisleri's "Bottles for Change" initiative, part of its Greener Promise campaign, is central to the company's efforts to promote plastic recycling and sustainability. With a legacy spanning over 54 years, Bisleri is committed to fostering environmental stewardship through recycling, water conservation, and sustainable business practices.
