Blue Energy Motors has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra government to establish a large-scale manufacturing facility for LNG and electric heavy-duty trucks.

With an investment commitment of Rs 35 billion, the project aims to produce 30,000 units over the next five years, reinforcing India’s transition toward sustainable logistics and cleaner transportation.

New Facility to Boost Green Truck Production

The upcoming manufacturing unit in Maharashtra will have a planned capacity of 30,000 trucks. Blue Energy has already invested USD 50 million in its operations and aims to cumulatively sell 30,000 heavy-duty electric and LNG-powered trucks in the next five years.

Launch of First Heavy-Duty Electric Truck and Corridor

Blue Energy recently rolled out its first heavy-duty electric truck equipped with battery swapping technology. Alongside the launch, it inaugurated India’s first electric highway corridor between Pune and Mumbai, marking a significant milestone for green freight transport.

The corridor forms part of Blue Energy’s goal to electrify major national highways across India within three years, creating a nationwide green logistics network.

Maharashtra’s Push Toward Sustainable Mobility

The new electric corridor was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who described the launch as a defining moment for freight transportation.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the state’s vision for sustainable innovation and complements India’s broader objectives under Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Existing Operations and Market Presence

Blue Energy currently operates a manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, with an annual capacity of 10,000 trucks. Over 1,000 LNG-powered trucks are already operational across India, giving the company a 60 per cent share in the domestic green truck segment.

Backed by Essar and FPT Industrial (Iveco Group), Blue Energy introduced its first LNG truck in 2022.
