The Union Cabinet adopted a plan on Wednesday to increase the number of city bus services nationwide by 10,000 buses and to strengthen urban infrastructure as part of green mobility measures, with an emphasis on cities without organized bus services. Any bus whose engine and ancillary systems are entirely powered by zero-emission energy is considered an e-bus.

The Center will contribute 720,000 crore of the estimated 57,613 crore cost of the PM e-bus Sewa scheme. According to a formal declaration, it will support bus operations for ten years.
