The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) held its 130th Enforcement Task Force meeting on 4 May 2026 to review enforcement actions and inspections across the National Capital Region for the period from 11 April 2026 to 28 April 2026. During the 18-day reporting period, the Flying Squads conducted 174 inspections covering key sectors, including 26 construction and demolition sites, 40 industrial facilities and 108 diesel generator sets (DG sets). Inspections identified 61 violations across the sectors.

Following inspections, the Task Force proposed closure of six units and projects, sealing of 31 DG sets, issuance of six show cause notices, imposition of environmental compensation in 11 cases, and proposed one prosecution under Section 14 of the CAQM Act. Several matters were referred back to the Central Pollution Control Board and state pollution control boards for further examination. Since the previous meeting on 17 April 2026, a total of 66 letters for closure, show cause, sealing, or compensation have been issued, including six in industry, 22 in construction and demolition and 38 related to DG sets.

The Task Force reported issuance of 16 resumption orders after verification of compliance and emphasised the need for focused enforcement in priority sectors, particularly DG sets in line with Direction No. 76, construction and demolition, industrial emissions and road dust management. Strengthening inter-agency coordination, timely follow-up and improved on-ground compliance were highlighted as priorities. The Commission reviewed cumulative data and reported that as of 4 May 2026, the Flying Squads have inspected 27,008 unit projects and entities to date.

Of those inspections, 1,779 closure directions have been issued and 1,365 resumption orders granted upon verification of compliance, while 123 cases were transferred to the respective state pollution control boards and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for final decision, and 291 entities remain under examination for consideration of resumption orders. The Commission reiterated the need for robust enforcement, improved data integrity and strict adherence to environmental norms to abate air pollution across the region.
