CAQM Enforces GRAP Stage-III Across Delhi-NCR

The Commission for Air Quality Management has recently invoked Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the entire Delhi-NCR with immediate effect, following a sharp deterioration in air quality. Delhi’s AQI rose to 354, falling in the ‘Very Poor’ category, with forecasts indicating a likely shift to ‘Severe’ levels in the coming days.

Based on assessments by the India Meteorological Department and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, unfavourable meteorological conditions and low wind speeds are expected to worsen pollution levels. As a preventive step, CAQM has activated all measures under GRAP Stage-III, in addition to actions already in force under Stages I and II.

The measures include suspension of most construction and demolition activities, closure of stone crushers and mining operations, restrictions on older petrol and diesel vehicles, and advisories for hybrid schooling and work-from-home arrangements. CAQM has urged citizens to cooperate with the measures, adopt cleaner commuting practices and minimise activities contributing to air pollution, while the situation continues to be closely monitored.
