The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, in collaboration with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd celebrated the sixth edition of Lineman Diwas in New Delhi on seven March 2026 to recognise the dedication of linemen and ground maintenance staff whose work underpins reliable electricity delivery across the country. The observance formed part of National Safety Week and aimed to acknowledge operational contributions and promote a safety culture among field personnel. The programme included a safety pledge to reaffirm commitment to safe working practices.\n\nThe event was attended by the Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, the Secretary (Power), the Chairperson of the CEA and other senior officials and stakeholders from the power sector. Around 250 linemen and supervisors from over 66 generation, transmission and distribution companies took part, using the forum to share experiences, discuss operational challenges in maintaining uninterrupted power supply and exchange insights on safety practices. Organisers emphasised the importance of capacity building and regular training for frontline workers.\n\nSpeakers highlighted the need to institutionalise safety through consistent use of personal protective equipment, proper confirmation of shutdowns before maintenance and routine safety drills, including a short safety video and pre-shift checks. They also noted that adoption of modern technologies such as smart grids, real-time monitoring systems, AI-enabled predictive maintenance and drone-based inspections can help identify potential faults in advance and minimise risk to field personnel. The theme of the sixth edition, described in official remarks as reflecting service, safety and dignity, was presented as reinforcing the status of linemen as essential to nation building.\n\nProceedings featured release of a Lineman Geet, the launch of a safety pocketbook with essential field guidelines, a safety awareness video on lightning risks and the felicitation of high performing distribution companies and linemen. A display of safety equipment and advanced tools was organised to facilitate hands-on learning and experience sharing among attendees. The event was live telecast across power utilities to enable wider participation and to underscore collective observance of frontline contributions.
