The Centre has approved five billion Rs (5 bn) to accelerate preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh 2027 and to fast track 34 infrastructure projects across the city and its approaches. The allocation follows assessments of requirements for large scale pilgrim movement and is aimed at bolstering essential facilities ahead of the festival. The approval is intended to ensure coordinated delivery of works that are critical to public safety and logistics.

The projects encompass upgrades to transport corridors, water supply, sanitation and temporary accommodation as well as enhancements to public spaces and utilities to manage surges in demand during the event. State and local agencies have identified priority interventions and work is being scheduled to align with phasing requirements and environmental clearances. Contractors have been mobilised on several packages and preliminary civil works are reported to be underway. Schedules include night works where necessary to reduce traffic impact.

Funding disbursement mechanisms are being structured to allow timely release of central grants and to monitor expenditure through established audit and project monitoring mechanisms. Technical committees comprising central, state and municipal officials are supervising progress and will report to the Centre at regular intervals. The focus is on delivering durable infrastructure while minimising disruption to residents and existing services.

Officials expect the accelerated programme to keep the project timelines on track and to permit testing and commissioning well before the arrival of large pilgrim contingents. Further clearances and municipal coordination are expected to be completed in the coming months to maintain momentum. The investment is presented as a targeted step to improve preparedness for the Haridwar Kumbh 2027 and to leave a lasting improvement in urban infrastructure.
