The Ministry of Heavy Industries, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy, has initiated the formulation of the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047). This strategic roadmap is aligned with the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision and aims to position India as a global automotive leader through innovation, sustainability, and international competitiveness.
Building on the achievements of previous Automotive Mission Plans, AMP 2047 focuses on stakeholder collaboration to drive advancements across the sector. The inaugural meeting of AMP 2047 Sub-Committees outlined the framework and objectives, with Additional Secretary Dr Hanif Qureshi stating that the plan is backed by concrete goals targeting sector growth, exports, and global presence.
The meeting brought together representatives from key ministries—including Power, Road Transport and Highways, Commerce, Petroleum and Natural Gas, DPIIT, and Environment—as well as industry bodies like SIAM, ACMA, CII, and FICCI, academic institutions, and think tanks.
AMP 2047 is being shaped through an industry-led, multi-stakeholder process involving Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), component manufacturers, policymakers, and academia. It will address pressing challenges such as rapid technological evolution and charging infrastructure for electric mobility.
Seven Sub-Committees comprising experts from government, industry, and academia will develop a phased roadmap with milestones set for 2030, 2037, and 2047. These inputs will be consolidated and presented to the Apex Committee chaired by Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a self-reliant, future-ready automotive ecosystem and expressed gratitude to all participants contributing to the shared vision of a developed India by 2047.
