The central government has notified a 66-hectare Tata Semiconductor Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Dholera in the state of Gujarat. The notification formally recognises the area as an SEZ and establishes its boundaries under the national Special Economic Zone framework. The project is positioned to strengthen domestic semiconductor capacity and to support downstream manufacturing, advanced packaging and component assembly activities across the value chain. The designation provides the legal and regulatory framework for developers and investors to commence preparatory works, plan infrastructure and secure necessary clearances.

The Special Economic Zone will benefit from incentives and regulatory provisions available under existing SEZ policy that are designed to improve the commercial viability of capital intensive semiconductor manufacturing. Central and state facilitation mechanisms will coordinate delivery of utilities, transport links, logistics hubs and common services that manufacturing clusters require. Streamlined permissions and tax treatments under the SEZ regime are intended to attract both domestic and foreign investment into fabrication, testing, assembly and related service activities.
