Centre Reports 106 Per Cent Spending In North-East Over Five Years

All non-exempt Ministries and Departments are required to allocate at least 10 per cent of their budget to the North Eastern Region under the 10 per cent Gross Budgetary Support mechanism. Over the past five years, expenditure in the region totalled Rs 3.9 trillion against an allocation of Rs 3.7 trillion reflecting utilisation of 106.1 per cent.

The Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE), a Central Sector scheme with full Central funding announced in the Union Budget 2022-23, was approved with an outlay of Rs 66 billion for 2022-23 to 2025-26. Since its launch and up to 31 October 2025, forty-four projects amounting to Rs 57.3 billion have been sanctioned under the scheme, with Rs 21.72 billion released to date.

This information was provided by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Sukanta Majumdar, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
