Chandigarh MC Gets Rs 1.25 Billion Boost from Centre

The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has secured a much-needed financial boost of Rs 1.25 billion from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), providing relief amid a prolonged financial crunch.
The grant, sanctioned on Wednesday, is expected to help the civic body stabilise operations and maintain uninterrupted delivery of essential services. According to Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, the funding will be used to clear pending liabilities, ensure timely payment of staff salaries, and support vital functions such as sanitation, water supply, waste management, and street lighting.
Mayor Babla added that the grant will also revive stalled infrastructure works, including the resurfacing of V4, V5, and V6 roads, while strengthening other ongoing civic improvement initiatives. The financial support is seen as a critical intervention to maintain the city’s basic urban services and enhance overall infrastructure efficiency.
