The Chhattisgarh Government has approved projects worth Rs 4.29 billion across 13 municipal corporations in the current financial year under the Mukhyamantri Nagarotthan Yojana, aimed at developing iconic urban infrastructure across the state.

Announced in the 2025–26 Budget, the scheme will cover all 14 municipal corporations in its first phase, followed by municipal councils and nagar panchayats. According to an official release, 26 projects costing Rs 4.29 billion have been sanctioned with the approval of Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, who also heads the Urban Administration and Development Department.

The sanctioned works include marine drive expansion, an oxygen-cum-sports complex, an interstate bus terminal, upgraded road junctions, hi-tech bus stands, auditoriums, lake beautification, park development, water supply augmentation, corridor development, Gaurav Path construction, road widening and bypass works.

A provision of Rs 5 billion has been earmarked for the scheme this year. Work orders have been issued for five projects, while foundation stones have been laid for another five.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the ambitious scheme will significantly transform Chhattisgarh’s urban infrastructure, supporting sustainable and citizen-centric urban development. Deputy CM Sao added that the programme aims to build well-planned, liveable and modern cities, with emphasis on roads, bypasses, flyovers, service lanes, underpasses and public amenities. Riverfront development and large parks will also be taken up to enhance liveability and environmental quality.

District-level committees headed by collectors will regularly monitor progress. Municipal commissioners will serve as member-secretaries, with engineers from the Public Works and Public Health Engineering Departments included as members.

Raipur Municipal Corporation has received four projects worth Rs 912.7 million, Raigarh three projects worth Rs 646.6 million, and Bilaspur nine projects totalling Rs 579.2 million.
