CIDCO to build Rs 280 million fire station in Kamothe

Amid rapid population growth in Navi Mumbai and Panvel, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has announced plans to construct the region’s largest and most advanced fire station in Kamothe. The state-of-the-art facility will be built on a 7,000-square-metre plot owned by the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) at an estimated cost of Rs 280 million.

The municipal administration has already approved the project’s expenditure based on its detailed design, and construction will begin once the tendering process is complete. Strategically located opposite Mansarovar Railway Station and around eight kilometres from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, the new fire station will ensure rapid emergency response across densely populated and high-rise zones.

According to a report by Saamana, the Kamothe centre will feature a joint control room for CIDCO, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), and the Panvel Municipal Corporation. Senior fire officials from all three agencies will operate together from this integrated facility to strengthen coordination in emergency and disaster management.

Once operational, the station will deploy two modern fire tenders and around 40 trained personnel. At present, the Panvel Fire Brigade operates 16 fire tenders with 158 staff members; the addition of the Kamothe facility is expected to increase manpower by another 40 to 50 firefighters.

PMC currently owns a fire engine capable of reaching the seventh floor of buildings, while CIDCO and NMMC have equipment that can spray water up to the 22nd floor. To further improve preparedness, the procurement process for three new high-tech fire tenders is also underway.

The upcoming Kamothe fire station is expected to become a key safety hub for Navi Mumbai and Panvel, ensuring faster response times, enhanced coordination, and stronger protection for residents in one of Maharashtra’s fastest-growing urban corridors.
