CMRL Floats Track Maintenance Tender For Phase 1 Network

Chennai Metro Rail Limited has floated a tender for the comprehensive maintenance of ballastless track across Chennai Metro Phase 1 and its Phase 1 Extension, covering elevated, underground and depot sections.

According to the tender details, the scope includes end-to-end maintenance of ballastless track systems across the operational network. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for January 20, 2026, while the bid submission deadline is February 5, 2026. The earnest money deposit for the tender has been set at Rs 2.3 million.

Chennai Metro Phase 1 comprises a 45 km network developed along two corridors—Washermenpet to Chennai International Airport and Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount. The Phase 1 Extension between Washermenpet and Wimco Nagar, commissioned in 2021, significantly improved metro connectivity in the city’s northern and north-eastern areas, which are characterised by high population density and limited mass transit options.

The extension has since been integrated into Chennai Metro’s broader expansion roadmap and is now being followed by the larger Phase 2 programme. Phase 2 is aimed at further increasing network capacity and expanding geographic coverage across Chennai to meet rising urban mobility demand.
