CMRL Plans Grade Separators on OMR for Better Traffic Flow

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to construct grade separators along the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in one of Chennai's busiest corridors. This initiative aims to streamline vehicular movement and improve overall connectivity on the vital stretch.

The plan involves the construction of multiple grade separators at key intersections along OMR, a major IT and residential hub. These grade separators will enable uninterrupted traffic flow by allowing vehicles to cross junctions without stopping, thereby alleviating bottlenecks and reducing travel time for commuters.

CMRL's decision comes in response to the growing traffic woes on OMR, exacerbated by rapid urbanisation and an increasing number of vehicles. The grade separators are expected to provide a long-term solution to traffic snarls, benefiting both daily commuters and businesses in the area.

The project will be executed in phases to minimise disruption to existing traffic. It will include the construction of flyovers and underpasses, integrating seamlessly with the current road infrastructure. CMRL aims to complete the project within the next few years, with each phase being carefully planned to ensure minimal inconvenience to the public.

In addition to easing traffic, the grade separators will also enhance road safety by reducing the chances of accidents at busy intersections. Improved traffic flow is anticipated to positively impact the local economy by facilitating smoother transport of goods and services.

CMRL's initiative to build grade separators on OMR underscores its commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and addressing the city's transportation challenges. This project is poised to significantly improve the quality of life for Chennai's residents, making daily commutes more efficient and less stressful.
