CMS Report Highlights Resilient Consumer Spending in CY’25

CMS Info Systems Limited (CMS), India’s leading business services company offering logistics and technology-led solutions, has released India’s Consumption Story CY’25 – CMS Consumption Report, the fourth edition of its flagship annual study tracking consumption trends across the country.

Commenting on the findings, Anush Raghavan, Chief Business Officer, CMS Info Systems, said the report highlights the resilience of Indian consumers amid macroeconomic headwinds and GST reforms. He noted that households are rebalancing priorities rather than reducing spending, with consumption increasingly focused on value, protection and utility. Sustained cash usage, particularly across semi-urban and rural India (SURU), continues to anchor spending behaviour, while organised retail and consumer durables have benefited from policy-led price rationalisation and festive demand.

The report indicates that retail consumption remains broad-based and resilient, with annual growth across insurance, organised retail chains and consumer durables, signalling a shift towards more formal and regulated consumption patterns.

Cash continues to play a structural role in India’s consumption ecosystem, with the average cash dispensed per ATM standing at Rs 12.1 million in CY’25, peaking at Rs 13.0 million during the festive period in November 2025.

India’s monthly average ATM withdrawal ticket size increased by 4.5 per cent in CY’25 to Rs 5,835 from Rs 5,586 in CY’24. SURU regions maintained leadership in ATM cash withdrawals, with an annual average of Rs 13.0 million per ATM, compared with Rs 11.8 million in metro cities and Rs 11.1 million in urban centres.
