Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has released the Coimbatore Master Plan 2041, a Geographic Information System based framework covering 1,531 sq km that spans the municipal corporation, four municipalities, 21 town panchayats and 66 revenue villages. Prepared by the Directorate of Town and Country Planning with input from more than 40 government bodies, the document sets out zoning and infrastructure priorities to steer the region’s next two decades of growth.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Housing and Urban Development Minister S. Muthusamy, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and senior officials attended the launch in Chennai. An accompanying government order is expected shortly, after which the full plan will be posted online for public reference.
Business and civic groups have welcomed the long awaited update. Rajesh B. Lund, president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, said residents can now see precise land use designations down to each survey number, helping investors locate industrial plots and safeguarding forest reserves. He urged the authorities to keep provisions flexible so that public feedback can be incorporated over time.
