Defence Department Advances Swachhata Drive Under Campaign 5.0
During the preparatory phase, the Department identified 5,377 locations across India for various cleanliness and waste management activities. These sites span a wide network of organisations and attached offices within the defence ecosystem.
As of 16 October 2025, Swachhata activities have been successfully conducted at 766 sites under the campaign.
An internal review of physical records formed a major part of the initiative. A total of 9,580 files were examined, of which 1,727 were weeded out, leading to the release of 22,021 square feet of office space. The disposal of office scrap and outdated IT equipment also generated Rs 0.24 million (Rs 2.38 lakh) in revenue.
Beyond physical clean-up, the Department has also prioritised process reforms as part of the campaign. A target was set to simplify 25 administrative rules and procedures to enhance efficiency and transparency in governance. So far, 19 rules have already been streamlined, marking steady progress towards more effective administrative functioning.
The campaign reflects the Department’s commitment to clean governance, environmental responsibility, and improved operational efficiency, aligning with the broader objectives of the Government of India’s Swachhata and Good Governance Mission.
