Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra announced a Rs 1,380 million (mn) sewer infrastructure project for Karawal Nagar, saying it will improve drainage, drinking water supply and civic facilities across parts of North-East Delhi. The announcement was made at a public programme organised by the Delhi BJP to mark 12 years of the central government, with local representatives and ministers in attendance.

She said the sewer network would cover Sonia Vihar, Milan Garden, Chauhan Patti, Sabhapur Extension and nearby colonies, and that work had already begun. The administration described plans to expand pipe networks, upgrade drainage systems and replace ageing water pipelines to improve sanitation and drinking water. Mechanised cleaning of existing sewer lines was said to be under way to activate previously non-operational infrastructure.

Officials reported that development works worth more than Rs 3,000 million (mn) had been approved in Karawal Nagar during the past year through the Chief Minister's Development Fund, MLA Fund and the Yamuna Paar Development Board. Three Atal Canteens were said to have started functioning in the constituency and approval was granted for three Arogya Mandirs to strengthen healthcare services, while demands for a new hospital were to be considered by the administration. Road construction and drainage works were described as under way in several areas, including Sabhapur Extension and the stretch from Rampal Chowk to Shiv Mandir, with plans to pursue widening and beautification of the road from the Signature Bridge to Pushta Road.

The water minister said previous administrations had failed to create proper sewer infrastructure, leading to untreated sewage entering the Yamuna, and that work had started on laying 43 kilometres of sewer lines across Karawal Nagar colonies. A party spokesperson noted that earlier projects had been delayed by environmental restrictions and mapping issues and that many sewer lines laid previously had never become operational and were now being cleaned and activated. Officials added that development projects worth nearly Rs 1,500 million (mn) had been launched in four colonies, that plans aimed to connect every household to the sewer network and that representatives described North-East Delhi as having transformed significantly since 2014.
